tokyobike x Brooks England
A limited edition Mini Velo
This custom design has been made in an edition of 10, each being individually numbered with a copper plate to mark the edition. All bicycles are made from Cr-mo steel with lugless welding (fillet brazing), 50 cm in size, and feature special Brooks 150th anniversary decals.
The Dashing Bikes Program
The Dashing Bikes Program unites a small number of exceptional bike builders from around the world under a single theme: copper. The tokyobike Mini Velo is fitted with a Brooks anniversary Swift saddle and slender grips that have copper rails, rivets and flanges. It is also finished with a number of copper components that have been custom made in Japan. The paint color chosen for the edition is RAL 3012 beige red, which has a strong yet muted tone, working in harmony with the overall scheme.
This collaboration between tokyobike and Brooks is driven by a mutual appreciation of craftsmanship, high production standards and fine detailing.
For this project, tokyobike approached Osamu Fukuda, a third generation custom frame builder with nearly 40 years of experience. Mr. Fukuda runs the RAIZIN works in Kiryu, Japan. Over the course of his career he has worked on a great variety of bike building projects and is e specially known for the production of many high end frames. Mr. Fukuda's approach can be summed up in his view that, “If there are two choices, better to pick the hard way. The easier way somehow comes back to you in the end.”
Each frame has been handmade by Mr. Fukuda himself, and is therefore totally unique. The result is a design that blends the functional integrity of a tokyobike with beautiful details such as internal cable routing and immaculate finishing.
